Summer Holiday in Germany (III): Visiting The Messner Mountain Museums

One of the MMM we have visited.

We kept exploring. Viums was too small for me, and eventhough there were many mountains and lakes and rivers to be conquered, honestly, I am not a  Conquerer. For doing such activities, I was not fit enough. I did many hours at the gym in Thailand, but it was not enough for a physical activities at the Mountains of Dolomiti area in North of Italy. Our short trips to the cities continued, during the time Lorenz was free from his hiking and climbing expeditions with his group of Viums.

We found out there were about five Museums wich were belongs to the famous Mountain climber , Reynhold Messner. He was born in South of Tyrol in 1944. He is the pioneer and the record breaking rock climber, on mountarinering expeditions and crossing desserts and the Poles. All his experience, and collections can be seen in all of his museums, It called the MMM or Messner Mountain Museum, which are spread al over the Dolomiti.

Strolling the Bruneck Castle and Museum

Firmian Museum in Bozen
We drove to the nearest one, in Bruneck in a cloudy and rainy day. MMM Ripa, brink of life, which is also the Bruneck Castle. Formerly the summer residence of the prince bishop, now is the Mountain Museum which is presenting the mountain peoples of Asia, Africa, South America and Europe. The collections also reflects their cultures, religions and tourism activities. The town of Bruneck itself is very attractive for tourist, because of its old buildings, small passages and shops lining at the small streets. We climbed up the hill until we could reach the Castle Museum of Bruneck.

Near Bozen we visited the MMM Firmian Museum with its distinguish style. Its addreses the subject of man's encounter with the mountains. The Museum was also an old burg, very large. The paths, stairs and towers leads visitors from the depths of mountain until the peak. The marriage between the old bricks and walls of the old burg with a modern architecture, with glass, steel and iron was very impresive.

We have visited three of the MMM during our holiday in Germany. We would love to see others, to make it completed.
